The primary difference between the two is that glass engraving is a physical process and etching is a chemical process. Although both produce end results that are the same, laser engraving cuts a cavity through the surface of the medium, revealing an image or writing at eye level which is noticeable to the touch as well. Laser etching basically sweeps away the top layer of the medium without cutting, thereby, creating a crevice.
