The Golden Oldie

The FA Cup is the oldest national football competition in the world and one of the most beloved and popular tournaments in football. Since its inception between 1871 and 1872, it has given birth to many soccer greats and continues to do so to this day. It will be 150 years since the Football Association Challenge Cup was clinched by Wanderers Football Club located at Kennington Oval. Since then, it has become one of the premier tournaments for English clubs, as well as an iconic mainstay of the English game.

The Victory Trophy

When it comes to soccer trophies, none is more coveted than the FIFA World Cup. Started in 1930, it was originally referred to as the “Victory Cup”. In 1946, it was renamed to the Jules Rimet Trophy to honour the former president of FIFA. Referred to as the crème-de-la-creme of soccer trophies, it stood 35cm high and weighed close to 4kgs. It was made from gold-plated sterling silver with a base that was surrounded in lapis lazuli stone and represented Nike, the Greek goddess of Victory. It was retired in 1970 when Brazil won and replaced by the one that we all know and love today.
